I couldn't survive the 4th trimester without these items
The Goods
Perineal Spray - This spray gives you cooling relief when you go to the bathroom, trust me, it's a life saver.
Padsicles - These sound crazy but will feel amazing the first few days at home. You can also add aloe and witch hazel and toss these in the freezer for some extra comfort.
Frida Washer - If you haven't realized yet, going to the bathroom post-birth is not fun. This helps to keep you clean because using toilet paper will be uncomfortable - you can also add some drops of witch hazel to help with the pain. I also got this Breast Care Kit that comes with breast warmers, masks for lactation and hydration, and a massager.
Water Bottle - When feeding or pumping, I get thirsty instantly, which makes sense considering breastmilk is more than 80% water - I can easily drink 32oz in one session so Stephen would always make sure I had water nearby which was super helpful!
Nipple Cream - Start using this once you begin breastfeeding or pumping, it will prevent chapped nipples. It's basically chapstick for your boobs!
Nipple Covers - When you're nursing, you'll most likely leak sometime throughout the day. These covers help prevent leaking through your shirts and your nipples from rubbing against your clothes when you're sore. They're also sewn in a rounded shape which makes them far more comfortable than the covers that come with a nursing bra.
Depends - I mentioned these in my Hospital Bag post - These are amazing for several reasons. If you're water breaks, they're perfect to wear on the way to the hospital. Post-birth, you can expect to bleed for a few weeks, so instead of using a ton of pads, these are far more convenient. I recommend getting them from Costco or Wal-Mart, they have the best prices.
Nursing Nightgown and Robe - This is something worth splurging on - this is all I wore for days once I got home from the hospital. The clips make it easy to nurse and pump, while the quality will keep you comfortable during those long nights.
Pumping Bra - Unless you want to sit there holding your pumps to your boobs, a pumping bra is a necessity. I didn't know this until I was home from the hospital and had to cut holes in one of the bras I already had until these were delivered.
Body Armor Lyte or Gatorade - I didn't know how dehydrated I would be for weeks after giving birth, and there's only so much water I could drink. I suggest adding these to your grocery list and starting to drink them before you go into labor.
Nightlight - Another item you can find in my Hospital Bag post - Not only did we use this in the hospital, but late-night feedings and diaper changes under a bright light are the last things you want to do. We still use this multiple times a day!
What other necessities would you add to the list?
