Berry Protein Smoothie Bowl
Protein shakes and salads are not my thing but a smoothie bowl, that's something I couldn't live without! Simple, fast, nutritious, and full of flavor - what else could you ask for?!
Serves: 1 Time: 5 min
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1 tsp ground flaxseed
- 1 tsp pure Hawaiian Spirulina
- 1 tsp nutritional yeast
- 1 scoop of preferred protein
- 1 handful of spinach
- 1 Tbsp natural peanut butter (optional)
- 1 cup frozen mixed berry fruit
- Fruit and granola for topping (optional)
Directions:
Combine all ingredients into a blender. Blend to the consistency of your liking and top with fruit. ENJOY!

Tips:
- When making the smoothie, I find it best to add the almond milk first then the powders so they don't get stuck on the side while blending. Add the rest of the ingredients and you will have the most delicious, nutritious and flavorful smoothie ever!
- When it comes to flaxseed, I recommend ground flaxseed over whole flaxseed because the ground form is easier to digest. Whole flaxseed cannot be digested, meaning you won't get the nutritional benefits. I prefer to buy whole flaxseed and ground it myself with a spice grinder.
- If you prefer a thicker smoothie, add less milk - if you prefer to drink it through a straw then add more milk.
- I personally do not like spinach but I've found if I put it in the freezer and add a handful to my smoothie, it gives the smoothie a nice, thick consistency and, more importantly, you can't taste it!
- We have a Ninja blender, I love it! But any blender will work to make this smoothie.
- I love using Spirulina because it's high in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory nutrients, can lower cholesterol, blood pressure and can help with anemia. It's also been shown to improve nail and hair strength.
- Why add nutritional yeast? This is very different than the yeast we use to make bread - nutritional yeast is packed B vitamins, zinc, magnesium and antioxidants. It's also a complete protein meaning it contains all 9 essential amino acids that humans need from food.
