8 Things To Get You Through a Rainy PNW Winter
Ski the Mountains
The PNW has some of the best mountains in North America, so grab a pass and head to the mountains! Here are some of the most popular ones:
- Crystal Mountain
- Stevens Pass
- Summit at Snoqualmie
- White Pass
Take a Hike
Not many people think of hiking in the winter, but that's some of the best hikes in Washington! Here are some of my favorites:
Rent a Cabin in the Woods
Washington is known for their mountains and the small towns that come with them, making it a perfect place to get away into a cozy cabin for a weekend. Here are a few of my favorite small towns!
- Leavenworth
- Packwood
- Skykomish
- Winthrop
- Ashford
Visit Palouse Falls State Park
Palouse Falls has been named Washington's official waterfall; during the winter, the 198ft waterfall freezes and becomes absolutely stunning. Be sure to check the weather and have an AWD or 4WD vehicle because the roads can be dangerous.
Remember you do need a Discover Pass to visit Palouse Falls, you can purchase one here.
Shop the Outlets
Depending on your location, whether you're near Seattle or Olympia, there are outlets you can check out on a rainy day.
North Bend is less than 45 minutes east of Seattle, these premium outlets have several stores you could spend hours at. Here is a list of stores at North Bend's outlet mall.
Centralia is closer to Olympia with some great shops such as Coach, Eddie Bauer, and Nike - get the full list of Centralia's shops here.
Catch a Live Show
As the gray days of winter descend upon Seattle, the city residents keep active with creative energy. Live music, theater, and special performances keep the city buzzing throughout the winter.
Some popular venues are:
Seattle Underground Tour
Have you heard about the city beneath Seattle? In 1889, there was a fire that destroyed the entire city of Seattle as we know it. When planning the rebuild, it was decided to raise the street level of the entire area to avoid the potential of flooding.
You can tour the underground city and see the hallways, basements, and corridors where Seattle originated. Book a tour here.
Visit the Zoo or Aquarium
One of my favorite things to do is hang out with animals, and you can do this, rain or shine!
The Seattle Aquarium has the "Window on Washington Waters" exhibit, which shows animals native to the area in a 120,000-gallon tank. Get tickets here.
Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium was amazing and a great place to bring the family. You can bring your own food and drink and have an amazing zoo lights tour around the holidays. Get tickets for Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium here.
Woodland Park Zoo is the largest zoo in Washington, with several different kinds of animals you're able to see any time of year. Get tickets here.
